Poppytastic

Having raised £85 last year which I donated to Help for Heroes I  set myself a challenge for this year to make 40 poppies to sell with all the proceeds again going to charity.

Over the weekend I did a craft fair and I took a long my prepared poppies in the hopes that I may sell at least 10 of them.

I have to say I was amazed at the response and I am pleased to be able to tell you that I managed
to sell a staggering

38

I ask for a minimum donation of £2.50 and so far I have raised

£95

As I have another craft fair in two weeks and was hoping to take some poppies to this fair as well it now means that I am beavering away making some more, but I am not complaining by any means I am just so taken aback at how fast they have all gone.
I actually thought making and expecting to sell all 40 was a little optimistic but I will know better for the future won't I, especially as colleagues at work are also asking whether I will be making them to sell again this year.

A busy time a head I feel.

    1. Thanks Helen. I was rather pleased yesterday and I have already been asked by colleagues in the office if I will be making more so I think we will definitely go over the target £100 for this years fund raising which is fantastic.

  2. That's fantastic news. I must admit that I thought you were being a bit conservative with forty, I remember how well they did last year. You're going to smash your target, you'd better get that hook hooking.

    1. I didn't get home till late last night, but I am hoping to get home a little earlier this evening. I have already made up another 20 black middles so tonight I am hoping to start on the petals but will need to see my button lady at the weekend for the middles. But yes it certainly has been a lovely surprise that they have done so well.

  3. Well done you x I bought some of these at the weekend for ourselves. I did think that I could crochet them myself but then I figured that the wool shop would get the profit from the wool I bought and not the British Legion!

    1. Fortunately I had some red and black wool in my stash so the only thing I've had to buy is the buttons and the clasps for the backs but all the proceeds go to charity I don't take anything out for the materials I don;t think I would feel right to do that.

  5. Well done you and my penpal in Yorkshire also made some that she showed me when over there. Not sure whether she made them for charity or not. Is that Prince Harry's charity, because if it is I bought a lovely book off a charity table for it whilst there. It is a popular charity by the sound of it. Enjoy hooking and take care.

    1. Prince Harry is a supporter of Help the Heroes as one of his nominated charities I believe. It is certainly a very popular charity as they support lots of projects including the Battleback Unit at Lillershall and as my son who is now in the RAF used to be a gymnast and trained at Lillershall it seems fitting to support them in getting our injured personnel back to health.

    1. I think that can be arranged Lisa. I will be making more as I have another craft show in two weeks and it seem a missed opportunity not to take more along with me. I just need 48 hours in my 24 hour day at the moment.... but don't we always.

    1. Thanks Penny. I can foresee I will be spending my evenings making some more as I am being asked by colleagues at the office for them too. But it's all for a good cause so I don;t mind.

    1. I didn't think I could exceed last years total so it's been a lovely surprise and long may it continue over the next couple of weeks. I started making more to try and keep up with demand.
