Number 26 come on down

Did your favourite win?

Internet

So GBBO has finished for another year.

Internet

What will we do with our Wednesday evenings now without Paul & Mary on our screens.

More crafting maybe???

But more about that later......

for now I am continuing with my autumn reads

completing

Educating Rita: Novel (A Star book): Peter Chepstow, Willy Russell

My return to school read for October.
I first read Educating Rita some 30+ years ago and then number 1 son read it for his GCSE and I got to read it again I really enjoyed it where he wasn't so keen.
So did I still enjoy it this time around.

Definitely

But meanwhile whilst having my usual cuddles with my furry boys

 and my Saturday morning cuppa

I did get to finish number 26 off my bookshelf
'The Bay of Secrets' by Rosanna Ley.

Now I would like to say that this means I could go wild in the isles and buy more books but of course I have already gone a little wild buying lots of books on my Kindle and a few to replenish the  bookshelf ready for my winter reads.

  1. I think any of the three contestants would have been worthy winners. On the night, Nancy was a pro. Fantastic winner & a great character X

    1. I loved the way she always called him the male judge.... I think anyone of them was in the running that weekend and it all depended on who pulled it out the bag.

  2. We go and see a local amateur dramatic society who put on plays about three times a year. Yesterday I received a letter saying they were putting on "Educating Rita" in November. Great book and I'm looking forward to seeing the play x

    1. I think you will really enjoy it, it is a great story and one that doesn't seem to become dated like some. I know I will read it again at some stage.

  3. We should get that series of GBBO later this year, and usually watch it. Your reading is still going well, I see. I'm wondering what craft you are going to get up to next. Take care.

    1. I hope we haven't spoiled it for you with all our talk of the GBBO already. I am still getting through lots of books. I'm not the best sleeper so when I am awake at 2am rather than staring at the ceiling I make myself a nice cuppa and read for a while till I feel I can dose off again.

  4. I was rooting for one of the boys to win, I don't know what it was about Nancy, I just never gelled with her somehow, though she was clearly the best on the day. Can you believe I've never read or even seen the film Educating Rita? I love to see your gorgeous doggies, they're very pampered cuddling up in your crochet blanket.

    1. I was rather hoping Bob the Builder would do it as he comes from near to where I was born and went to school. But I did like Fancy Nancy especially when she would say 'I think I've messed up here' and then created something wonderful. I do like the book Educating Rita it never seems to become dated. I like the film too but that is a bit 80's. You can always borrow the book if you would like to read it.. They all come in at the weekend for cuddles as it's the only time I'm not up at stupid o'clock. They like to play hide & seek under the blanket.

  5. I think that it will have to be more crafting! I was happy for any of the three to win though, they were all great weren't they! xx

    1. Well you would be right. I have got several things on the go again at the minute. Work does get so in the way.... I think the winner was the one who deserved it on the day and was very laid back definitely not how I would have been that's for sure.

  6. Definitely more crafting on a Wednesday night, although I generally have a crochet hook in my hand when watching TV anyway. Will miss GBBO so there's nothing for it but to make more cake! I've never read Educating Rita, but I loved the film so perhaps I will. Have a good week.

  7. I usually knit or crochet when watching tv but if there's nothing on that I want to watch then I read. Wednesday's have been great with GBBO and Our Zoo but both have finished now. I would recommend reading Educating Rita if you can get hold of the book I eventually found a copy on ebay as I couldn't find it on my usual places.

  8. I thought Richard was going to win but Nancy did so well in that last episode and did deserve it.
The Help is tremendous, hope you enjoy it. And the movie is fab too.

    1. I thought Richard might have done it and was hoping he might as he comes from near to where I was born and raised but Fancy Nancy just stayed so calm and it paid off I loved her Moulin Rouge cake.

  9. I like Julie Walters, its a great movie, I didn't realize it was a book. I missed the bake off this year. :)

    1. I too like anything with Julie Walters in always been a big fan. Educating Rita was originally a William Russell play and I think it was then released as a book due to the film. I was surprised when number one bought it home to read for his GCSE but obviously his teacher had good taste too and thank god it wasn't Lord of the Flies. I had re-read that one too and I still have the same opinion of it in my 50's as I did as a teen.
